LONDON: Bollywood actor Arjun Rampal says he is toying with the idea of directing a feature film. The 49-year-old actor, known for his performances in films like ‘Om Shanti Om’, ‘Rock On!!’, ‘Don’ and ‘Rajneeti’, said he is confident of making a good film as a director.
“I keep playing with the idea (of directing) and then shy away. I hope to do it one day. I know I will make a good film,” Rampal told PTI.
The actor’s new film ‘The Rapist’, written and directed by filmmaker Aparna Sen, received rave reviews after the film’s European premiere at the recently concluded London Indian Film Festival.
Rampal said he is thrilled with the positive response to his character of Aftab Malik’s devoted husband.
“It was so rewarding working with Aparna Sen. I guess that’s the best adjective to describe it. Just pure and wholehearted, challenging and challenging and therefore very rewarding,” he added.
The actor recently played baddie Rudraveer in ‘Dhaakad’ and admitted that he is conscious about his choice of roles, though he does not believe in the distinction between hero and villain.
“Whatever is the best piece of writing is what I would like. Playing either the dimensions, negative or positive, can only be achieved through good writing,” said Rampal.
The actor is shooting in Hyderabad for his South cinema debut with the Telugu period drama ‘Hari Hara Veera Mallu’, directed by Krish Jagarlamudi.
“Chris is a great guy and a really good director. I was petrified of the language, but I think he’s doing well,” he said.
“I think in any film, language should never be a barrier. If the film is attractive and entertaining, it finds its audience everywhere. Films should not have boundaries or distinctions, especially those made in their own country. I am very happy that these barriers have finally been broken,” added the actor.
Some of his other projects slated for release in the coming months include filmmaker duo Abbas Mustan’s ‘The Penthouse’ and ‘The Battle of Bhima Koregaon’ opposite Sunny Leone.
