We all know The Rock, right? And he is not the only rapper involved in wrestling and acting. Taking over, Bad Bunny (Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio) was recently cast as a Marvel wrestler and honorary superhero in the movie El Muerto. The most recent announcement was made earlier this week at CinemaCon, which is the annual gathering of movie theater owners in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Bad Bunny Pins Down Role as a wrestler: Marvel Superhero El Muerto
This Puerto Rican musician will become the first Marvel Latin actor to star in a Marvel live-action film. When the Sony Pictures stand-alone movie hit theaters on January 12, 2024, Bad Bunny told CinemaCon, where his casting was announced on April 26.
“Bringing El Muerto to life is simply incredible… so exciting”
Sony Pictures also announced that Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, also known as rapper Bad Bunny, will star as Marvel’s next hero “El Muerto”. According to sources, Sony Pictures said that the film will be released exclusively in cinemas on January 12, 2024.
The power of El Muerto in the Marvel universe
So basically El Muerto is a wrestler who inherits powers from his ancestors through his mask, which gives him superhuman strength. The fun part is that, in the comics, El Muerto has entered the ring with Spider-Man himself!
He added that he grew up watching wrestling, which will not be a surprise to fans who followed his WWE career. According to information, Sony executives portrayed the character of Bad Bunny as an antihero on the verge of inheriting his father’s power. According to the Marvel official who provided the description of the character, El Muerto is a wrestler who acquires superhuman strength. His powers and mask have been transmitted in a generational battle with the evil el Dorado character.
El Muerto also faced Spider-Man in a fight to get him out, but the two eventually join forces. It is not yet clear if there is a possibility that Spider-Man will appear in this movie. But we must keep in mind that even if we hear something, the rumors from the actors of Spider-verse can not always be reliable.
After some important discussions, Sony and Marvel are ready to continue working together, especially after the success of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Also, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was a huge success with its sequel scheduled for June 2023. Then El Muerto Sony x Marvel also has a rolling design for other movies. It includes the Madame Web starring Dakota Johnson which is decided to be released on July 7, 2023 and the Kraven the Hunter starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson which is scheduled for January 13, 2023.
