Ben Stiller has been tapped to star David Gordon Greenthe new Nutcrackers movie.
Per DeadlineStiller will play the lead role in Nutcrackers, a new movie currently shooting in Ohio from director David Gordon Green.
Stiller, who has had supporting roles in several films over the past two years (including 2020’s Hubie Halloween and 2021’s Locked Down ) but hasn’t starred in a film since 2017’s Brad Status , is also producing the film via of his Red Hour Films banner with Rob Paris, Mike Witherill, John Lesher and Nate Meyer.
Nutcrackers is written by Leland Douglas. Deadline’s plot synopsis for the film reads: “The Nutcracker follows workaholic Mike (Stiller), who must reluctantly travel to rural Ohio to care for his four rambunctious nephews after their parents die in a car accident . What starts as a three-day journey to find foster care turns into weeks of chaos on the farm – and the realization that he doesn’t need to find them a home, they found one for him.”
Additional Nutcrackers casting has not been announced at this time. The film has no release date yet.
What else has David Gordon Green made?
Green began his career doing a handful of independent dramas including 2000’s George Washington, 2004’s Undertow and 2007’s Snow Angels. He moved into comedy in 2008 with Pineapple Express, followed by 2011’s Your Highness and 2011’s The Sitter.
He went on to direct a new Halloween franchise for Blumhouse, which includes 2018’s Halloween, 2021’s Halloween Kills, and 2022’s Halloween Ends. More recently, Green made 2023’s The Exorcist: Believer, which was released also from Blumhouse. Two more Exorcist films are currently in the works, although Green has not confirmed whether he will return to direct them.
Stiller, meanwhile, has been busy directing and executive producing Severance for Apple TV+. The hit series, which stars Adam Scott, has been renewed for a second season in April 2022.
