Warning for Halloween fans: there’s a new project in town, and details of the new project are very hush-hush – Disney hasn’t released a plot or even a title for the upcoming movie that has our wheels turning! What could it be?
So no plot, no title? What do we know? Filming will take place in Norwood Massachusetts during the month of August. According to Norwood Community Media, Disney plans to use several locations to use the town’s commons, theater, town hall and several parking lots. This is um… not much to go on.
However, take a look at the commons of the city:
Which well-loved Halloween movie does this remind you of? Halloweentown anyone?
While this is not entirely confirmed and is purely speculation at this point, there is some support for the theory. According to entertainment website E!, Halloweentown producer Sheri Singer expressed her desire to create a sequel saying, “I’d have to get the Disney Channel to come on board, but I’d like to [make Halloweentown 5]. I have ideas on how I would do it. A year and a half ago there was some talk about it, but then it didn’t happen.”
Maybe now is the time? Besides, we never thought we’d have a sequel to Hocus Pocus yet here we are! Although the original Halloweentown movies were filmed in St. Helens, Oregon, it is still possible that location is related. After all, it’s been 24 years since the debut of the first film. Marnie, who was a young teenager then, would be an adult now and could have moved to New England.
Interestingly, Kimberly Brown has one Etsy shop where he sells Halloweentown merchandise. Check out this photo of her modeling a (super cute) shirt while randomly holding a balloon 5. She gives no explanation for the balloon. Could it be a subtle nod towards a new movie? Unlikely since it was revamped in the fourth movie, but a girl can dream, can’t she?
Another interesting theory is that it could be a remake of Halloweentown. This would certainly come as no surprise, Disney is no stranger to remakes after all. The types of locations chosen for filming seem to be in line with the original.
It’s also very possible that this is a whole new story which, Halloween lover that I am, would be so exciting! We will keep you posted on developments as they develop. What do you think; Am I on board with my theory or do you think I’m way off base? Let us know in the comments!
