Crow star Bill Skarsgård seems ambivalent about the ending of the new Rupert Sanders-directed pic, which is a reimagining of James O’Barr’s original graphic novel.
“I personally preferred something more definitive,” Skarsgård said esteemed sirsuggesting that the ending of the 2024 film sets up a sequel.
As far as the film franchise goes, there has only been one Eric Draven story, with The Crow: City of Angels, The Crow: Salvation and The Crow: Wicked Prayer telling different stories of love and revenge. City of Angels is going to be something of a direct sequel, with Sarah from the flagship film (now played by Mia Sarah) helping another dead man right things wrong. Crow: Stairway to Heaven, a Canadian television series, was a short-lived television adaptation of the graphic novel – and not a sequel series to the film, as some reports have suggested.
There is no sequel to the graphic novel: the 272-page comic sees Eric take down each of his killers one by one before finally going home to his fiancée Shelly – with no room for a second part. Every Crow movie has ended with the eponymous hero killing all the bad guys and crossing over to the other side – so I’m struggling to think of a way a Crow movie could, in fact, set up a sequel. In any case, we will sit down.
The Crow hits theaters on August 23, 2024, after its original release date of June 7. For more, check out our list of the most exciting upcoming movies in 2024 and beyond, or get straight to the good stuff with our list of movie release dates.
