By British actor Daniel Radcliffe Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, which opened the Midnight Madness section of the Toronto International Film Festival, received rousing cheers and nonstop laughs through every second of the biopic spoof.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the raucous audience sang and clapped along to Yankovic’s on-screen songs, including “I Love Rocky Road” and “Amish Paradise.” After the screening, Al Yankovic with director Eric Appel, Evan Rachel Wood and Radcliffe took the stage to applause.
In the highly anticipated biographical parody, Radcliffe stars as the beloved parody musician. The upcoming Roku original movie is a feature-length take on a spoof trailer from over a decade ago published by Funny or Die, which starred Aaron Paul as Al and Olivia Wilde as Madonna.
Strange directed by Apel, who co-wrote the film with Yankovic. Produced by Funny or Die and Tango, the play tells a mostly fictionalized version of how the parody artist rose to superstardom. It also marks Appel’s feature directorial debut. At the premiere, Appel compared the feature film to other music biopics such as Rocket manas Forrest Gump and Boogie Nights.
According to the report, the film also features an original song by Yankovic that plays over the end credits, during which he sings about the song being Oscar-eligible. The Grammy winner noted that they are currently in talks with record labels to release the film’s soundtrack, including the original score. When asked if there would be a sequel to the comedy, Yankovic said, “I think there should be.”
Weird: The Al Yankovic Story premieres November 4 on Roku.
