Avatar: The Way of Water is about to lose the top spot to M. Night Shyamalan’s A bump in the cabin if predictions for its opening weekend are to be believed. The thriller, starring Dave Bautista, will soon be released in 3,600 theaters and is apparently on track to make $15 million to $17 million.
Avatar: The Way of Water has held the top spot for the past seven weekends, but with Shyamalan’s latest thriller that dominance at the box office is about to end. The film has grossed a whopping $2.118 billion since its December 16, 2022 release, making it the fourth highest-grossing film of all time, so losing in its seventh week isn’t really a huge setback on its behalf.
No reviews have been written yet A bump in the cabin to give the audience any idea of what to expect. Shyamalan is one of those directors who is a bit hit or miss when it comes to his movies. His latest film, Old, received extremely mediocre reviews with the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer reaching 50%, with its audience not much higher at 53%. That said, it won’t be until the audience reviews of his latest film start rolling in that we’ll know whether or not the box office predictions above hold true.
The movie is based on the book The cabin at the end of the world by Paul G. Tremblay. The story follows a girl and her parents vacationing in a cabin in the woods (very classic thriller) when they are taken hostage by a group of armed strangers. The strangers demand that they make a choice to prevent disclosure. Stars include Batista, Jonathan Groff, Ben Aldridge, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Kristen Cui, Abby Quinn and Rupert Grint.
A bump in the cabin will be released in theaters on Thursday, February 3.
