Downton Abbey actor Tom Cullen in new horror film with Game of Throne actor

by Stewart Cole

The first trailer for the horror movie “Barbarians” has been released and we can say that it is not for the faint of heart.

Tom Cullen, best known for his role as Anthony Foyle (Viscount Gillingham) in Downton Abbey, plays Lucas, a friend who celebrates a friend’s birthday in the idyllic countryside when things take a horrible turn for the worse.

The trailer sees Adam, played by Iwan Rheon (known for his role as Ramsay Bolton in Game of Thrones), and Lucas fighting before the countryside shelter is invaded by masked assailants who tied the couple together.

While the trailer does not offer much, the issues of betrayal and grumbling are clear with Cullen’s face in a bloody spot.

This is a world away from his role as Tony Gillingham at Downton Abbey where he played a Crawleys family friend and later fell in love with Lady Mary Crawley (Michelle Dockery).

While the couple has a strong bond and Gillingham later writes prose for Mary, she eventually rejects him because she has not survived the death of her first husband.

But this is not the last time Tom Cullen fans have seen him, as his character reappears in series four and agrees to fire Alex Green’s valet at Mary’s request after Green attacked housekeeper Anna (Joanne Froggatt).

In the fifth series, Gillingham continues to chase Mary and the couple eventually become secret lovers before their relationship is revealed by the Countess butler (Maggie Smith).

Mary later tells Gillingham that she feels they do not have enough in common and states that she will not marry him, so she announces his decision to marry Mabel Lane Fox.

It was last seen in the eighth episode of series five. Since then, Cullen has appeared in a number of television series, including starring in the historical fantasy drama Knightfall and as Guy Fawkes in the BBC mini-series Gunpowder.

His latest film Barbarians is set to be released in US cinemas and on order on April 1, but the release date in the UK has not yet been confirmed.
