Dr. Evil reunites the band. However, before conquering the world, they will try to save it. General Motors organized a Austin Powers reunion for the big Super Bowl commercial this year. Mike Myers has reprinted his role as Dr. Evil to help launch the new wave of electric vehicles coming from GM in the coming years. The company is trying to drastically reduce the carbon footprint by hiring one of the film’s funniest villains to complete the mission.
Several other characters appear with Dr. Evil in the new ad, including his son, Scott. Once again playing Seth Green, Scotty now has a son of his own and Dr. Evil hopes to turn the grandchild into another version of himself. You can see the full ad below!
“I really feel like the band has been playing together for 30 years,” Green told Variety. “Austin Powers is still one of the most recognizable things I’ve done in the world. There is a fan base for it.”
“All I know is that Mike showed first-hand, personal interest in the script, so that he not only accurately portrays the characters in the narrative, but also sells the product in a way that the company was happy with. ” Continue Green
“We are using climate change as an enemy,” said Deborah Wahl, General Motors’ chief marketing officer. The automotive giant knows that “for the vast majority of newcomers and the younger population, this is very much in line with their purpose and vision, and they are very concerned about climate change as a whole.”
“We want to normalize EVs,” Wahl added, before saying that the ads were to “help people see themselves in one.”
