Eagles All-22 Film Review: Jordan Davis will be extremely important for the defense

by Stewart Cole

With the NFL Plan 2022 Finally, it’s time for some movie theaters in this year’s rookie class. I will try to reach out to all the players and some UDFAs in the coming weeks. There are obviously a million spy profiles out there, so that’s just my opinion, but I tried to back up basically everything I said with movie clips. I’ve watched a lot of all22 on several beginners, but I can not share these clips on my own Twitter accounts (or risk being blocked), so I’ve used a few other accounts here. Let’s go!

Strong points

+ Impressive lateral movement and range for large TD, can close external routes. He is a great defender.

+ Fast legs, moves like a man much lighter. Sports are out of this world for someone of their size.

+ Just huge frame and strong anchor.

+ He has real power and will lead the lineman back to the fourth, especially in the rare case where he is not double.

+ Can “stack and drop” offensive linear and make them look silly sometimes. He can throw the aggressive lineman with crazy power

+ Does he ever miss a tackle? When he holds you in his arms, he seems to be done.

+ He has an irrational ability to shoot through the gaps when he is not asked to do 2gap considering his size.

Believe it or not, it can really chase the QB when they try to play out-of-structure games.

Weaknesses

FYI – Many of the weaknesses are very difficult to see in the movies because they have nothing to do with what he did on the field, but more with what we did not see.

– His biggest weakness is the preparation and whether he can handle more snapshots. We all know by now that he only played 38% of the snaps last season and obviously we need him to play more.

– Limited passes in a hurry, I did not have the opportunity to see him ignore his responsibilities and take back the fourth in the 3rd fall.

– It does not have as constant inner impulse as you would expect from a man of his size. He plays high and loses the leverage battle from time to time.

In total

Jordan Davis is an absolutely exciting player to watch and watch as he progresses. You all know how athletic he is and how good his measurables are, we will not go into that here. I just want to focus on the tape and what I saw from it.

Those who criticize him and call him an early defender are absolutely right. He just did not have the opportunity to play in 3rd down steady that is when you can ignore the responsibilities of the gap in the running game and really win the general. He just did not have the opportunity to do that. Whether this is because he can not do it or because he can not play so many snaps due to a fitness problem, I do not know. However, from his tape, I find it impossible to believe that someone with his first step and power can not contribute to rushing situations that proceed.

Jordan Davis will be extremely important (literally) for the defense of the Eagles that are advancing. We know that Gannon wants to play very well with 2-high safety and we know that means lighter boxes and this will lead to the attack that runs the ball. That’s why having a key DT that can play a role in stopping running is so important in the modern NFL. Even if Jordan Davis never develops his momentum and only plays in the first downs, it could be absolutely vital for the Eagles to move forward.

I think Davis will enter the NFL as a very good starter in the early games. I do not think it will take long for Davis to be considered a top defender at an early stage. It’s not a complete project and it needs a little training, but the talent springs to the cinema and you can clearly see its elite characteristics, in terms of speed and power of a man of this size.

As for the fact that we will promote him in front, I believe that he will have the opportunity to play in 3rd falls as he progresses throughout his career. I think he will have the strength and speed to take on an offensive guard and I think the teams will immediately want to double him, which will help release the other tackle defenders and give the EDGE defenders a one against one abroad.

Davis is one of the most exciting defenders to enter the league in a few years and I’m excited to see him evolve for the Eagles. I think there are some reasonable concerns for him as a player, especially his lack of playing time and whether he can handle more snapshots, but the positive is high.
