First trailer for Jeffrey Wright’s critically acclaimed new film

The first trailer for Jeffrey Wright’s blockbuster film American fiction has been released.

The film, which debuted at 100% on the review aggregator site Rotten tomatoesbased on Percival Everett’s 2001 novel Deletion.

It stars Wright as novelist Monk, who is disillusioned with a system that allows black entertainment to flourish only if it is filled with clichés.

Directed by The good partcord jefferson, American of fiction The plot sees Monk come under social pressure to write a ‘stereotypically black’ book that becomes a huge success, unwittingly centering himself on the establishment he loathes – and the first trailer gave us a good look at the satirical comedy to come.

“Monk, your books are good,” Monk’s literary agent (John Ortiz) tells him at the beginning of the trailer. “But they’re just not popular. Editors, they want a black book.”

The film clip takes viewers on a journey of Monk’s attempt to overthrow the system. “Look what they post. Look what they expect us to write. I just want to rub their noses in.”

By renaming his novel My nonsense instead My pathologyMonk sells his book – and the film is subverted when Monk pretends that the book, which contains “dead beat dads, rappers, crack”, is based on his real life.

While the film, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, is no longer at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, it still holds a strong 94% score.
