“Lady Bird,” “Little Women” and upcoming “Barbie” director Greta Gerwig is leading a new Netflix film franchise based on CS Lewis’ “The Chronicles of Narnia” book series.
According The New YorkerGerwig has inked a deal that will see her write and direct at least two movies based on the books, but it’s not yet clear which books.
It is also uncertain whether this will be a sequel to the previous three films that began with the 2005 Disney epic “The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe” and followed 2008’s “Prince Caspian” and “The Voyage of the Dawn 2010’s Treader.
A remake of the ‘Dawn Treader’ sequel ‘The Silver Chair’ has long been rumored but never confirmed. Netflix took over the franchise in 2018 when it announced plans to partner with The CS Lewis Company in a multi-year deal to produce series and movies based on the books.
A year later, “Coco” co-writer Matthew Alrich took over the franchise as “creative architect” to oversee all development moving forward.
Gerwig was the first link in November of last year What’s on Netflix but she has been into all things “Barbie” for quite some time now.
