There is no way that one is not aware of the dent that SS Rajamouli has created globally with his monster, a game-changing Magnum Opus RRR. The film that was released worldwide last year has managed to not just win a Golden Globe so far, but even be nominated at the Oscars in a major category. The West is celebrating the director like never before and there are rumors that many big wigs out there are eyeing him. Anurag Kashyap who is a fan of the director is now worried about the same.
For the uninitiated, RRR is a force to be reckoned with and the film has gone viral across the globe. Starring Ram Charan and Jr NTR in the lead roles, the film managed to earn a huge box office and even fetched an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song for Naatu Naatu. While all this is going on, we cannot ignore the fact that people now want to work with Rajamouli.
Anurag Kashyap is now speaking the same as he has confessed his concerns that the West may steal SS Rajamouli from Indian cinema. Director Dev D calls it a perfect fit for the DC and Marvel cinematic universes and can make a big difference. Read on to know everything you need to know about the same.
According to a conversation with News18 (via Hindustan Times), Anurag Kashyap talked about how the conversation about collaboration between the West and Indian cinema has been going on for a while now. He added that with SS Rajamouli it can be done like the West can completely steal him from us and not just cooperate.
“Everyone in the West is trying to reach Rajamouli now. He is the kind of director who can make a huge difference. He’s like the perfect director for a DC or Marvel movie. Talks about partnerships between India and the West have been going on for a long time. But with SS Rajamouli, it wouldn’t be a collaboration. What will happen is that he will be stolen from us,” said Anurag Kashyap.
The director also spoke about how SS Rajamouli shot Naati Naatu in Ukraine for 12 consecutive days. Anurag said, “It’s so hard to pull off [something like that] away from. I would give up immediately, thinking that shooting for a series of songs would take me so many days. And here is a director who pursues a sequence and takes as many days as he needs to shoot it! This requires a lot of vision, courage and nerves of steel. And that has been translated.”
While Steven Spielberg has offered SS Rajamouli a platform if he wishes to enter Hollywood, only time can tell what the RRR maker wants to do. Stay tuned to Sleepers for more information.
