Alien: Romulus hits theaters this Friday — it’s the 7th film in the franchise, or the 9th if you’re counting Alien vs Predatorr crossover movies. The standalone film takes place between the events of the original Foreign (1979) and Aliens (1986). It is directed by Fede Álvarez, known for his work in the horror genre and the marketing suggests that Romulus might be more in line with the Ridley Scott-directed horror classic than James Cameron’s action-oriented or philosophical sequel Prometheus.
According to THR, Alien: Romulus it was originally slated for a streaming service on Hulu, similar to the critically acclaimed Predator prequel, Smooth (2022). That it’s fully released in theaters shows confidence in the film, and fans of the franchise will appreciate seeing the aliens on the big screen for the first time in seven years.
