From Carnival‘s Haddonfield to Friday 13thCamp Crystal Lake, the location has proven to be a crucial focal point in the realm of cinematic horror. However, occasionally horror franchises break from standard tradition by changing the setting of a film, just like the upcoming installment Scream 6.
Unlike the previous chapters of the exciting franchise set in the fictional town of Woodsboro, California, Scream 6 comes in a whole new light and offers dedicated fans a new location. According IndieWirethe sixth chapter of the long-running horror franchise is set to take place in New York City, marking the first time the franchise has included a film that isn’t set in Woodsboro or the state of California in general.
Because it is Scream 6 in a different location?
According to franchise star Jenna Ortega, the sixth film’s Ghostface is rumored to is the most aggressive version of the masked killer yet. As a result, it is believed that the location change was done to give the franchise a new twist and present a new setting to the viewers. In the past, smart horror fans have been able to figure out who the killer is early on, especially in 2022 Scream. This likely influenced the writers and producers who spent months plotting out the plot.
Now with a new setting and a chance to keep audiences guessing more than ever, it looks like the location change will shake up the fundamentals of the horror franchise we’ve all known for so long.
How will the change affect the film?
As mentioned earlier, the location change will definitely create a new environment of terror and killing that the audience has yet to see their eyes on. Instead of Sidney and the gang patrolling the town of Woodsboro, a mix of new and returning characters will be bouncing around the streets of New York trying to protect themselves from Ghostface.
Ultimately in horror movies, a plot tends to get stale if the same scenario is repeated over and over again. While movies on Scream Franchises are definitely fun, maybe a new setting will allow the creators to venture into uncharted waters and expand the overall fear factor.
We will have to wait and see how the different location affects it Scream 6 when it hits theaters on March 31, 2023.
