NEXT Amber Heard’s loss in court during Johnny Depp’s high-profile defamation case against his ex-wife, the actress and her legal team remain active in their response to the ruling. Last week, this one team of lawyers singled out a juror in the trial and filed papers accusing him of perjuring jurors in an attempt to throw out a $10 million verdict in the case. The judge has now responded to these allegations.
Once again, the court did not rule in favor of Amber Heard. According to a report from Law and CrimeAngenette Levy’s correspondent, Judge Penney Azcarate has denied all this Aquaman the actress’ post-trial motions, including her recent claim about Juror 15;
Amber Heard’s legal team suggested Juror 15 got the call from his father, with whom he shares the same name and lives with, and fraudulently implicated him in the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard case. However, as the judge’s response notes, because the summons did not include a date of birth, either father or son could have appeared for jury service.
It was ruled by the judge that juror 15 completed the jury questionnaire as he testified his correct date of birth, which Heard’s team had previously contested, thus meeting the statutory requirements for service and not ultimately being fraudulent. Johnny Depp’s legal team had previously responded to the allegationurging Heard and her team to disclose this to the judge after her loss and not during the trial.
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard publicly presented their arguments on defamation claims from both sides from April 12 to June 1. The verdict found Heard guilty of defamation on three counts, awarding Depp $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages. Heard’s countersuit found Depp guilty on one count, awarding her $2 million in damages. The Aquaman 2 The actress will only have to pay $10.35 million in total because of Virginia law that limits punitive damages.
