In a new interview with director Taika Waititi, Culkin talked about his next project, the Eisenberg-directed film A real pain.
The film, which centers on two estranged cousins who end up taking part in a Holocaust tour after their grandmother’s death, will begin shooting in Poland soon.
Discussing the project, Culkin saidMagazine Interview: “This is going to sound terrible, but I tried to get away from it because it will make my life miserable. But I don’t want to not do it because it’s such a beautiful script.”
He explained: “I found every reason not to. I was like, “I’m going to see his first movie, maybe it’s going to be terrible.” I watched it and was like “S***. It is very good.’
“Well, let me read the script again, I’ll find holes in it. Maybe I was in a good mood when I said yes. I read it again and it was so wonderful.”
Culkin added: “When I finished it, I went to my wife and said, ‘I’m sorry, honey.’ F***, I have to go make this movie.” It’s just really good.”
Explaining his reluctance, the actor said: “The reason I wanted to get away from it is that I have a one-and-a-half-year-old and a three-and-a-half-year-old and we’ll be bouncing around Poland.
“I don’t like being away from them for more than two days at a time and it’s not practical for me to have them there all the time. I’m trying to get my wife to come out for two weeks and bring the kids. He is very into her.
Culkin and his wife Jazz Charton married in 2013.
