The failure at the box office of Vijay Deverakonda starrer Liger has left exhibitors upset. The film, which marked the South actor’s Bollywood debut, was backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma production. Co-starring Ananya Panday, Revathi and boxing legend Mike Tyson, it is directed by Puri Jagannadh. Despite being billed as a Pan India film, it failed to lure audiences to the theaters and create magic at the box office.
After its failure, the actor is all set to return to films with his new film titled Khushi, where he is paired opposite Samantha Ruth Prabhu. But much before the film’s release in September, Liger’s distributors in Telangana staged a protest against the actor, demanding a full refund of the money they lost due to the film’s failure at the box office.
Since Khushi is already in the works and on its way to hit the screens, the exhibitors saw it as a golden opportunity to get their money back from the filmmakers.
Earlier, during an Instagram live session with director Chiranjeevi Liger, Puri Jagannadh spoke about the box office failure and said, “We are under a lot of pressure. We need strength to face all these things. We need a healing period when we are injured, but I believe the healing period should be short. We may lose people and wealth or wars may occur, the healing period should not be more than 1 month. We have to move on to the next thing.”

“I worked on Liger for three years and I loved making this movie with actors and making beautiful sets, I shot with Mike Tyson. But, it failed. But for that, we can’t cry about it for the next three years. If I look back, the days I was happiest are more than the days I was sad.”
