Ready for your big break? A new film starring Toronto comedy superstar turned YouTuber Lilly Singh is playing in the greater Toronto area.
According to casting, no previous acting experience is required for these roles.
The casting is looking for South Asian talent living in the Greater Toronto Area — specifically, a teenage girl, a woman in her 40s or 50s, and a woman over 60.
The teenage girl will play a young version of the main character Maya.
Present-day Maya will be played by Lily Singh, so young Maya should bear a “good resemblance” to the star.
“This vivacious South Asian girl is a self-confident ‘smartie’ who is as liberated and Americanized as they come, much to the horror of her aging mother, Veena,” says a character description of young Maya.

The Leafs tailgate party is back tomorrow and here’s how to enter
“When young Maya is exposed to a compromising position with her boyfriend Sohan at a school concert, she is sent to India for a more ‘disciplined’ upbringing.”
“Later, young Maya meets her older self in a hallucinatory interaction in which young Maya tells Maya that she’s an adult now and needs to ‘unlearn’ her sexual shame and do what’s right for her.”
The other two roles will be of Maya’s mother Veena and her grandmother Nani.
Nani’s character has a “tough yet comedic vibe”, while Veena is “playful and sarcastic, but digs her nails in when needed”.
Given the nature of this coming-of-age film, applicants should be comfortable with R-rated humor.
