The Rockers Maneskin were “proud” to be asked to cover one of Elvis Presley’s classic songs for Baz Luhrmann’s new biopic.
The Italian winners of the Eurovision Song Contest are with the actors who have recorded tracks for the soundtrack of the new movie “Elvis” which tells the story of the King’s rise to fame – and they were asked to face the great ballad “If I Can Dream”.
Frontman Damiano David told NME.com: “We were talking about this with Baz Luhrmann, who had this very nice, super clever idea, because it would be so easy to give us an up-tempo song and become super rock . .
“He saw that between the lines we could give something else to show the sweet side of Elvis. I think we did a great job!”
David then added: “The meaning of the song is very modern: ‘If I can dream of a better land / Where all my brothers walk hand in hand.’ It has to do with union, it has to do with peace, “Freedom and happiness and it comes out at the right time. We are really proud of what we did and that we are part of this project. I feel it will be amazing.”
Guitarist Thomas Raggi then said: “Elvis is an amazing artist, so it was great to be able to contribute and pay tribute. We recorded the song at a really special moment during the writing of the album “.
Other artists who contributed to the soundtrack are Eminem, Tame Impala, Stevie Nicks and Jack White.
The film stars Austin Butler in the title role and the actor has recorded some of Elvis songs for the film, while there will also be some of the originals of the legendary musician included in his film.
“Elvis” launches in the UK on June 24.
