Spoilers ahead for Deadpool and Wolverine.
We are less than a month away Deadpool and Wolverine slices into theaters – and Marvel has started the countdown to its arrival with the release of a new trailer.
However, if you’re rolling your eyes for another teaser full of footage we’ve seen before, you might want to actually watch it. Why; Because the newest 60-second trailer for Marvel Phase 5 actually packs a lot of new footage. In fact, I’d consider it a glorified teaser clip, because it primarily teases a rematch between two people who first locked horns in the first live action. X Men film.
Yes, we have another showdown between Hugh Jackman’s diamond-claw mutant and Sabretooth (real name Victor Creed), one of Wolverine’s most notable adversaries in Marvel comics. The duo faced each other on the big screen in the 2000s X Menthe first entry in Fox’s now-defunct film franchise (read our X Men movies series guide for more details), which saw Wolverine overcome his primal nemesis in the film’s final act. 24 years after that match, we have another showdown between the pair, albeit one that will be much more violent – Deadpool 3 they will be rated R – from their duel to the first live action X Men film.
If that wasn’t enjoyable enough, the actor who played Sabretooth in that film – Tyler Mane – will reprise his role as the beastly antagonist to Jackman’s equally rage-filled mutant. We’re not just getting any old rehash of the duo’s fight from the first X Men Well – we have a movie that fans (Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) or otherwise) have been waiting almost 25 years for. Color me excited.

Okay, if you watch it very carefully Deadpool and WolverineDuring development, you may have known that Sabretooth was confirmed to appear as part of the film’s extensive cast roster. Various X/Twitter fan accounts, including the X-Men Updates social media channel, posted a bunch of leaked December 2023 images (see above) that revealed Mane would be returning as Sabretooth. For those people, this big reveal won’t be as much of a surprise as it is for those who are only learning about his return with this teaser.
However, it’s still satisfying to see Mane return as one of Wolverine’s greatest foes. And if Marvel has decided to reveal Sabretooth’s return before the film’s July 26th release, it means they have to hold back even bigger and/or fun pictures for the film.
