Netflix has a brand new number one movie

by Stewart Cole

Another week, another new Netflix number one movie. This time, however, it is a film that has one of the biggest divisions we have seen between viewers ‘and critics’ views – it is extremely popular, but the critics have given it a big thumbs up.

365 Days: This Day is the sequel to the hugely popular 365 Days. As it was also a critically acclaimed film, fans of the series will not be too surprised by the reactions to this latest film.

The 365 Days franchise is largely in the area of the “erotic thriller” and has made comparisons with 50 Shades Of Gray.

The first film focused on a Mafia boss who, with a key woman in his past, kidnaps her for 365 days in the hope that she will fall in love with him. As you do.

The second movie 365 Days: This Day sees the couple now married and not doing well. Since their relationship was originally based on an abduction, we can understand why.

Both films are based on Blanka Lipińska’s book series and a third film is expected next year.

At the top of the charts

According in FlixPatrol, 365 Days: This Day topped Netflix charts. It was released on April 27 and is now well ahead of any other movie watched in the last seven days. Only the South African thriller Silverton Siege is close, in second place in the world charts.

And if you think this movie is only popular in certain countries, you are wrong. It tops the US charts, the UK charts and about 17 other countries.

As for these reviews: Well, it has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 0%, based on 13 reviews. The audience rating is a little less harsh, at 19%

The LA Times explains that the film does not have many reasons to existIndieWire notes: “The contempt with which the film treats both the viewers and its protagonist can only rejoice”. While Variety calculates that it is: “hot garbage piping “.

Ouch.

Not that Netflix will mind. The huge number of films that are released under his own emblem means that there will be some stench in what will be released.

It’s always a balanced mainstream ticket – his deal with Adam Sandler has seen a number of very popular but critically acclaimed films – with films that have gained far more critical acclaim.

But he must be careful. Its recent profit call has shown it is losing subscribers for the first time and is going to raise prices around the world. Decent content will be the key to keeping people who now have far more choices in the streaming space.
