October is the month of horror, and Netflix may have delivered the perfect movie for the season with The Conference.
It has gone straight to number one on the Netflix charts according to the stat aggregator FlixPatrol.
Says The conference is Netflix’s hottest movie worldwide, even if at the time of writing it was only at no. 3 in the UK and no. 6 in the US.
Horror fans in the US and UK aren’t quick enough, it seems, probably not helped by the fact that The Conference is a Swedish-language film.
Don’t let that put you off, though, because this is a winner. Here’s the trailer:
A group of employees are led to a company bunker, but their days are turned upside down by a bloodthirsty killer.
It’s a horror comedy, but it still contains some effective scares and plenty of gory moments.
“There’s a striking economy to The Conference in how Eklund doesn’t waste time on speeches or slow-burn his way to intensity,” he says. RogerEbert.comBrian Tallarico.
The Paradise of TerrorKarina Adselgaard is also a fan.
“Not only is it funny, but it’s a full-on slasher, which means it’s perfect for Friday the 13th. Or any fun movie night, really,” he says.
The Conference is directed (and co-written) by Patrik Eklund. It’s his first feature film since 2012’s Flicker and, we’ll be level with you, we haven’t seen anything he’s done before – much of which is Swedish TV.
Judging by The Conference, we may have lost.
