Some fans were disappointed to learn this Scream VIIts directors will be replaced for the upcoming seventh film in the franchise, with Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett choosing to pursue a different career after their two hits. But the franchise is undoubtedly in great hands Christopher Landon at the wheel for Scream 7and not necessarily just because he is already an established director of genre hits like the Happy Death Day movies and Netflix’s heartfelt horror comedy We have a ghost. It turns out that Landon’s ties to Ghostface predate the production of Wes Craven’s original film.
Landon, who is his son The road to heaven star Michael Landon and brother to Yellowstone fan favorite Jen Landon, formerly; talked about the possibility of bringing his talents to the franchise, sharing that he’s really good friends with screenwriter Kevin Williamson. But while a guest on an episode of the Sirius XM podcast The Jess Cagle Showthe director dropped the surprising revelation that his input was part of the process that led to the Scream it is done In his words:
I can only laugh when I think of a mid-level production company employee stumbling across a script titled Horror movie, then seeing Christopher Landon across the room and having a giant lightbulb go off above his head. But apparently the bulb is shaped like a Ghostface mask, even though that visual wasn’t in the mix yet.
Landon continued, reflecting on the “full circle” aspect of it all, saying:
Apparently, many other people were involved in the turn Scream in a complete production and a lot of credit goes Dawson Creek Creator Kevin Williamson’s script was so smart and clever from the start. So Landon isn’t claiming to be the spearhead or anything, but I don’t even want to think about a world where he had a completely different internship and someone else who hated horror was tasked with reading the Horror movie opposite scenario.
Progressive progress Scream 7 currently it cannot happen due to ongoing WGA Writers Strike and SAG-AFTRA actors are on strike, but hopefully the horror sequel can go into production as soon as possible once the BTS disputes are resolved. For now, all the details are basically non-existent, with fans hoping to see returning cast members like Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, and Jasmin Savoy Brown, not to mention Neve Campbell, though this it can be very difficult.
Fortunately, there are many more upcoming horror movies to look forward to in the meantime, and both TV networks and streaming services will be hard at work with their horror programming ahead of the Halloween season.
