Nicolas Cage’s new horror film Longlegs has continued its chilling marketing campaign by launching a website that shares how the fictional serial killer killed his victims — and how Oregon police ended up connecting each crime.
Titled The birthday murders, the platform features an introductory home page, a contact email and address, and a section listing each homicide in incredible, gruesome detail. Be warned, the section in question features a (gradual) collection of disturbing, gory imagery, so if you’re a little squeamish or prefer not to see potential spoilers, you might want to skip the virtual visit.
“With thirty-eight murders to his name, Longlegs has torn apart the lives of eleven different families across the Beaver State,” the website explains. “His victims were good people: honest fathers, decent mothers, innocent little children’.
Ahead of the film’s release, NEON released a bunch of cryptic teases that deal more with his broadcast pulse of the horror film than is its plot. Written and directed by Osgood Perkins (The Blackcoat’s Daughter), Longlegs follows FBI agent Lee Harker (Maika Monroe) as she is assigned to reopen a chilling, unsolved case. As he delves into the mystery, he discovers ties to the occult and a disturbingly personal relationship with the Satanic psycho (Cage) behind the massacres. Will he be able to find them and stop them before they strike again?
Alicia Witt, Blair Underwood and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’s Kiernan Shipka round out the supporting cast.
“Well, it’s Silence Of The Lambs, but it’s also kind of a Zodiac, it’s kind of a seven. There’s a kind of pattern, a cipher, something that you recognize,” Perkins previously told SFX of the outlet. “I’m going to say the word Manson early in the movie, you know what I mean? You do it justice. But then you do your truth on the other side.”
Earlier this week, Black Bear confirmed that it is distributing Longlegs in the UK and that it will open on July 12, in line with its US release. For more, check out our list of the best horror movies of all time or our guide to the most exciting upcoming horror movies coming our way.
