Actress Park So-dam is currently recovering from thyroid cancer surgery. The 30-year-old actress was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer during a routine check-up. This common type of cancer usually affects people in their 30s and 40s, especially women, and the overall cure rate is generally very high.
According to Korea Times, diagnosis and subsequent treatment forced Park to cancel promotion efforts for her new film Special load, directed by Park Dae-min. In the film, the actress plays a leader of a criminal organization. While Park’s character is good at what she does, she develops some regrets when she is assigned to hand over a young boy to traffickers. To help him escape, he must escape from the criminal organization and the corrupt police officer who is stalking her. Special load is to be released in January 2022.
Park is best known to Western audiences as “Jessica”, the fake art teacher in Bong Jun-ho Parasite, which was the first non-English language film to win an Academy Award for Best Picture. The boy who was abducted inside Special load plays Jung Hyeon-jun, who also played her student Parasite.
According to the agency Park, Artist Company, the actress regrets that she lost her promotional activities, but will focus on her recovery. The agency thanked her fans for their support and promised to do her best to help the actress regain her health.
Park is also known for her roles in movies The Priests, Fukuoka, Veteran and The throne, as well as a role in television dramas Youth Record and Cinderella and the Four Knights. The next project in her program is Ghost, a spy film set in 1933. It has not yet been decided whether the shooting schedule for Ghost will be postponed.
