Parker to direct new ‘Blair Witch’ movie?

Lionsgate

In April of last year, news broke that Lionsgate was considering a possible reboot of “The Blair Witch Project” franchise.

Now it looks like some progress may have been made Weekly Production (via Bloody Disgusting) reporting that British director Oliver Park (“The Offering,” “Strange Events”) has been hired to direct an untitled “Blair Witch” sequel at the distributor.

In addition, the project is reportedly targeting a late summer/fall filming with the original ‘Blair Witch Project’ production company Haxan Films also attached.

The 1999 independent found-footage horror film follows three student filmmakers who trek into the Black Hills of Maryland in 1994 to film a documentary about a local legend known as the Blair Witch. The three disappear, but their equipment and plans are ‘discovered’ a year later.

The film became a global sensation, spawning an immediate bigger budget in 2000 and then the Adam Wingard revival in 2016, along with several books and video games. It remains one of the highest-grossing films ever made – grossing $246 million from a budget of well under $1 million.

As the site indicates, these details have not been confirmed by Lionsgate at this time, and the listing has both Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sanchez as producers.

Myrick and Sanchez, who created the original, had little creative input into any of the subsequent films.
