Priyanka Chopra Jonas is a global visionary

by Joe Bourn

Actually making Acropolis was a big challenge for Chopra Jonas. They shot for more than a year, starting in 2021, when many pandemic restrictions were still in place. It was difficult to keep in a little bubble, made even more difficult by how physically and emotionally demanding she found the role, not to mention having to stay in top shape throughout stunt training. However, Chopra Jonas loves Nadia’s duality. “She’s a woman who carries a lot of weight with grace under fire,” he says. “Anything can happen and Nadia will have it under control. But it takes a toll on your spirit when you’re the one who always has to carry it with you or the one people turn to for answers. And being a spy allows you to wear so many masks. We [have] epic battle scenes and suddenly it’s going to be really tender and human.”

It’s completely different from Chopra Jonas’ other lead role this spring: Mira Ray in the emotional romantic drama Love againwhich also features Sam Heughan (Foreign) and Celine Dion. While Nadia is bold and courageous, self-confident bordering on arrogant, Mira is vulnerable, open, kind and somewhat broken. But hailing from Bollywood, where variety is the name of the game, Chopra Jonas doesn’t just thrive on rocking projects. he is looking for them. He is always looking for new ways to express herself and finds nothing more exhilarating than that feeling of nervous anticipation when she steps into the shoes of an unknown character for the first time and doesn’t quite know what she’s going to find.

This fearless, try-anything attitude is what has driven Chopra Jonas throughout her career. Now a new mother to a one-year-old daughter, Malti Marie (with husband Nick Jonas), she’s had to slow down a bit to think about logistics before diving headfirst into whatever project piques her interest, but she’ll never stop looking for that creative adrenaline rush. “I feel even more excited to be able to do work that he would [Malti Marie] proud, that would make her say, ‘She’s my mom,'” says Chopra Jonas. “I want to be able to leave behind a legacy like that. That’s how I feel about my parents. They inspire me every day — the people they were, the work they did. All of my choices are somehow geared to come through her lens.”
