There is nothing like a good Marvel or DC movie to show off a person’s inner comic book fan, and usually people get very excited about dipping their toes in the MCU when a new movie comes out. It seems that some well-known directors do not share this feeling, however Martin Scorsese said a few words about superhero movies. Now The Last Duel Director Ridley Scott has some strong thoughts on the genre.
Many actors consider the opportunity to play a superhero a considerable honor, and many continue to have incredibly successful careers after playing their hero, even if he was not a big name before. Although many times fans love the actor as much as they love the hero they play, Ridley Scott does not seem to believe that the genre does injustice to the characters themselves. In an interview with Deadline, The Gladiator The director says he feels that the best movies are made by their characters and superhero movies are coming out soon. Define in his own words:
Almost always, the best movies are driven by the characters, and after that we will come to the superheroes, if you will, because I will crush it. I will crush it. They are boring like shit.
Although there are some important people behind the DC and Marvel characters, and respected directors / screenwriters who have made their mark in both universes, Ridley Scott goes on to say that the problem with superhero movies is that the scripts , to put it bluntly, I suck. Obviously the director of some great cinematic masterpieces has some high expectations for superhero movement stories and feels they use special effects to make up for the lack of depth and story. Their scripts are not good at all… They are superhero movies. So why don’t superhero movies have better stories? Sorry. I got off the rail, but I mean, come on. They are mainly saved by special effects and this becomes boring for all those who work with special effects, if you have the money.
If Superhero moviegoers upset by Martin Scorsese saying he does not enjoy their movies, are about to erupt from Ridley Scott’s harsh words about the genre. Both directors have come up with some of the top films, and they are names that other directors have definitely been looking for at some point. It may just not be the kind of superheroes, and the fact that none of the directors have tried their hand at such stories seems to be proof of that as well.
Although it does not sound like Ridley Scott will dip his fingers into the superhero genre soon (or ever), he was quite busy with other genres.
