It’s not often that we see a new Netflix movie with a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. That makes Ultraman: Rises the latest animated family movie on the streaming service to put on your watch list.
The movie has an enticing plot, especially if you like Japanese mythology and superhero shows. Discussion says: “With Tokyo under siege by rising monster attacks, baseball star Ken Sato reluctantly returns home to claim his mantle #Ultraman. But the titanic superhero meets his match when he reluctantly adopts a 35-foot-tall, fire-breathing baby kaiju. Sato must overcome his selfishness to balance work and parenthood while protecting the baby from forces bent on exploiting him for their own dark agendas.”

While audiences are loving the new film, critics are a bit more critical.
Critics give this moment Ultraman: Rises a “fresh” 73%, which is well below the public, but still a pretty respectable score.
Everyone seems to agree that it’s a visual spectacle, but some critics are also calling the film “heavy hand“and a little at”sugary‘side of things. However, only six out of 22 critics rated it Rotten, and it sounds like for most families, a movie that focuses on the importance of family will be a welcome addition to summer fun.
Of course, if you want to get out of the house, Inside Out 2 is in theaters this weekend. It currently holds a 93% with critics and a 95% with audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. I loved the first movie and watched it with my kids when they were young. Now they are teenagers and it seems like the timing will be perfect. All in all, a good weekend of family movies!
