Robert Zemeckis’ strange new film Time Travel

by Stewart Cole

There is probably no more popular time travel movie in the history of cinema than Robert Zemeckis Back to the Future. Zemeckis’ new film also feels like a time travel movie — of a very different kind.

Instead of a DeLorean, his Here has … room. And the space before the house in which the room sits was built. The film seemingly covers the entire history of the planet from the age of the dinosaurs to the present, and perhaps even into the future. But the camera remains fixed in one position at one point as time passes around it.

The trailer for Here it’s below and gives you at least a sense of the concept, although I’m having a hard time figuring out how the plot (if there is one) goes. linearly? Walking in history? The other notable selling point for Here is that it reunites Zemeckis with his key Forrest Gump collaborators: Writer Eric Roth and stars Tom Hanks and Robin Wright.

Here is HereIts official synopsis (hah):

From the reunited director, writer and stars of Forrest Gump, Here’s an original film about multiple families and the special place they inhabit. History travels across generations, capturing the human experience in its purest form. Directed by Robert Zemeckis, written by Eric Roth & Zemeckis and told much in the style of Richard McGuire’s acclaimed graphic novel on which it is based, Tom Hanks and Robin Wright star in a story of love, loss, laughter and life. of which occur right here.

I mean, this sure looks and sounds like an ambitious project. Successful or not, I can’t imagine something so unusual could be boring. Here is scheduled to open in theaters on November 15.
