The long-awaited film by Sanjay Leela Bhansali Gangubai Kathiawadi starring Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn, was selected to be screened at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival in February and will have its world premiere at the festival. Gangubai Kathiawadi has been selected to be screened as part of the Berlinale Special, a section of the film festival dedicated to the screening of exemplary cinema. This year’s selections are films made during the pandemic.
As Sanjay Leela Bhansali celebrates 25 years in the world of cinema, his 10th film Gangubai Kathiawadi indeed it was special to him. Sanjay Leela Bhansali says, “His story Gangubai Kathiawadi It was very close to my heart and my team and I did our best to make this dream come true. “We are proud and honored to present our film at the famous Berlin International Film Festival.”
Producer Jayantilal Gada of Pen Studios shares his thoughts on the choice of films. He says, “I believe in Mr. Bhansali and his art. It gives me great pleasure that our film will be screened at the Berlin International Film Festival and I am proud to work with Mr. Bhansali. Alia has given an excellent performance and I am also grateful to Ajay Devgn who was part of this project. It is a story that will attract and will attract the world audience “.
Artistic director Carlo Chatrian of the Berlin International Film Festival says: “We are delighted to have a premiere Gangubai Kathiawadi and continue the tradition of the Berlin Film Festival to be a special setting for Indian films. This time with a film that combines the usual art of shaping camera movement and body choreography with a socially relevant theme, not just in India. “From the beginning, we were captivated by the story of Gangubai, an extraordinary woman who was dragged into extraordinary circumstances.”
Produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Dr. Jayantilal Gada (Pen Studios), the film is set to hit theaters on February 18, 2022.
