Actor Shahid Kapoor says that his action film with Tiger Zinda Hai director Ali Abbas Zafar has been completed and they hope to release the film sometime this year.
Presented by Jio Studios in collaboration with Zafar’s AAZ Films, Offside Entertainment and The Vermillion World, the film is billed as a “stylized relentless journey full of action”.
Speaking of the untitled work, Shahid said the film is a departure from the “typical” action movies.
“Ali’s film is ready. It’s a kind of action I have never done before. It’s new to me and to him. “It’s a nervous action, not like the typical one, it has a quirk,” said the actor, who has previously starred in action movies such as “Kaminey” and “R… Rajkumar”.
“It’s very tedious (to take action) and I have lost a lot of weight. I had a great time working on it. Ali and I have known each other for a decade and we decided to work on it. “It will come out this year,” Shahid told the PTI.
In addition to Zafar’s film, the 41-year-old actor is about to make his OTT debut with a Prime Video series by The Family Man creators Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK.
The play is an interesting and fascinating work, he said, calling it a “quirky police drama”.
Last year, Shahid also signed on to play a paratrooper in an action movie called Bull, inspired by events from the life of Brigadier General Bulsara.
Set in the 1980s, the film marks the directorial debut of Aditya Nimbalkar, who has worked extensively with director Vishal Bhardwaj.
The actor said that the material details for Bull are still being processed.
“Bull is even later in the future. It may not happen right away. These are just some of the goal setting shareware that you can use. “It’s not on the agenda right now,” he added.
Shahid is currently awaiting the release of Jersey, a Hindi remake of Telugu National Award-winning sports drama of the same name.
The actor said that he is grateful for the various offers that come to him today, but it is difficult to find interesting opportunities all the time.
“I have a film that comes out two and a half years after a super successful film without any other release (in between). “It’s great for me,” he said.
Jersey is the actor’s first release since Kabir Singh in 2019 and the actor said he believes in “quality work”.
“You can only be good or better than the opportunity you have in front of you. I am grateful that opportunities are coming. It’s hard to find consistency because big characters and movies don’t happen every day… For the last two or three years, I’ve been happy with the work I do. “I feel good about it deep inside me,” he added.
Gowtam Tinnanuri, who directed the original Jersey, has also directed the Hindi version. The film also stars Mrunal Thakur and Pankaj Kapur.
Presented by Allu Arvind and sponsored by Aman Gill, Dil Raju’S Naga Vamsi, Jersey is set to release on April 14th.
