His long-awaited trailer Sharmaji NamkeenIt, starring Rishi Kapoor and Paresh Rawal impersonating the eponymous character, has just been retired. Rishi Kapoor’s latest film promises to be a sweet, healthy affair and tells the narrative story of self-realization and the discovery of a retired widow who undertakes a variety of jobs to keep himself busy and keep loneliness away. After several adventures, he finds joy as he discovers his passion for cooking after joining a female group of cats. However, there are many trials and tribulations he faces and his son does not even agree with his unconventional methods.
The family entertainer stars in a host of actors, including Juhi Chawla, Suhail Nayyar, Taaruk Raina, Satish Kaushik, Sheeba Chaddha and Isha Talwar. In a Hindi movie premiere, Sharmaji Namkeen introduces two veteran actors, Rishi Kapoor and Paresh Rawal – who play the same character as Rishi Kapoor, who died before the film was completed.
The day before the Sharmaji Namkeen trailer came out, Rishi’s son, actor Ranbir Kapoor, had released a heartfelt video. “The show has to go on – you’ve all heard it, but I’ve seen my father live.” Ranbir said that when Risi fell ill, the veteran actor was worried if the film would see the light of day. “After his death, we thought the film would not be completed. We thought we’d try VFX or I could put on prostheses and finish the role, but nothing was going well. It was a difficult time for all of us. And that was when Mr Paresh Rawal intervened. “He was very generous on his part to meet this challenge,” he said.
Directed by Hitesh Bhatia and produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under the banner of Excel Entertainment in collaboration with Honey Trehan and Abhishek Chaubey of MacGuffin Pictures, Sharmaji Namkeen will premiere on Prime Video on March 31.
