Sir Sam Mendes is to make four separate films for each member of The Beatles.
The 59-year-old director had previously pitched the idea of making four separate films about Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Ringo Starr, John Lennon and George Harrison to executives in Hollywood, and Sony Pictures Entertainment's Tom Rothman and Elizabeth Gabler were impressed and the two. from his ambitious plans
Sam – who will direct all four films – told Deadline: “We went to LA just before Christmas to present the project and it's fair to say we were met with worldwide excitement.
“The reason Sony stood out from the competition was Tom and Elizabeth's passion for the concept and their commitment to bringing these films to theaters in an innovative and exciting way.”
Sam is set to produce the project alongside Neal Street Productions partner Pippa Harris and Neal Street's Julie Pastor.
Geoff Jones – the executive producer of the films for Apple Corps Ltd – said: “This project stems from an idea Sam had over a year ago and is a testament to his creative brilliance and the persuasiveness that Paul McCartney , Ringo Starr, Sean Lennon and Olivia Harrison responded with such warmth and enthusiasm as soon as he spoke to them.”
Jeff also promised to create an “epic cinematic experience.”
He shared: “We intend it to be a uniquely immersive and epic cinematic experience: four films, told from four different perspectives that tell a single story about the most famous band of all time.
“To have the blessing of The Beatles and Apple Corps to do this is a huge privilege.
“From our first meeting with Tom Rothman and Elizabeth Gabler, it was clear that they shared our passion and ambition for this project, and we can't think of a more perfect home than Sony Pictures.”
