There is a new one Super Mario Bros. movie this weekend, which is a good reminder that video games and cinema have long had an uneasy relationship. Details are currently thin on the ground, though considering the sheer scale of some of their films, expect something similar to the previous Mortal Kombat film. The two franchises have a history together, with the first Mortal Kombat game appearing around the same time Street Fighter II, both of which took the dueling genre to a new level. The big difference was this Kombat he was super angry while street fighter it did not allow players to tear the backs of their opponents.
This isn’t the first time the franchise has attempted a mulligan. Back in 2009, Hollywood tried again with Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Liwhich did even less than the first street fighter, with a fairly large budget. Here’s hoping the third time’s the charm.
