Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has confirmed new films from James Mangold, Dave Filoni and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
Today during Lucasfilm‘s Studio Showcase at Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy announced that three new live Star Wars movies are on the way. The films are James Mangold (Logan, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny), Dave Filoni (The Mandalorian, Ahsoka), and Oscar and Emmy Award-winning director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel, Save face).
James Mangold’s film will return to Dawn of the Jedi, while Dave Filoni’s film will focus on the New Republic and close out the intertwining stories told in The Mandalorian, The Boba Fett Book, Ahsoka, and other Disney+ series. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s film will take place after its events Star Wars: Rise of Skywalkerand feature Daisy Ridley back as Rey as she builds a new Jedi Order.
“As you can see from all the TV we do, we explore a lot of different stories. This actually comes from what George Lucas said years ago, that he created Star Wars to move forward and backward along a mythological timeline,” Kennedy said. “Now we’re trying to expand that timeline, building a rich future, expanding the present, going deep into the past to tell our stories, and we’re excited to work with some of the best and most passionate filmmakers in projects that will span the past, present and future.”
