Yeon Sang-ho, the director of Netflix’s Hellbound and Parasyte: The Grey, is back with a new comedy adaptation for the streamer.
Yeon is reteaming with Hellbound screenwriter Choi Gyu-seok for Revelations, a new film based on the pair’s comic of the same name, with Gravity and Roma director Alfonso Cuarón as executive producer.
The film will follow Min-chan (Ryu Jun-yeol) a small town pastor who has a divine revelation that a man visiting his church is the person who kidnapped his son. In a consuming search for justice and punishment, he catches the attention of detective Yeon-hee (Shin Hyun-been), who is haunted by the ghosts of her family.
“Alfonso Cuarón, known for such masterpieces as Children of Men and Gravity, has greatly influenced my work as a director,” Yeon said in a statement. “I am excited about this opportunity to work with him in shaping Revelations and have high expectations for our partnership.”
Hellbound was the show that dethroned Squid Game from the top spot on Netflix in 2021 after a nine-week run at the top of the international charts and is currently in the works for a second season. Parasyte: The Gray also went straight to number one when it was released earlier this year. In terms of films, Yeon’s international breakthrough on the big screen came in 2016 with the zombie thriller Train to Busan.
