In December 2020, we broke the news that acclaimed director Aanand L Rai was set to bring the story of India’s first Grandmaster and five-time world champion, Vishwanathan Anand, to the big screen. Now, almost a year later, the director has talked about his ambitious work.
In promoting his Christmas release, Atrangi Re, the director was also honest about this biographical film. While stating that it will take time, he also revealed what the film will do.
In a recent interview with PTI, Atrangi Redirector Aanand L Rai was candid about Vishwanathan Anand’s biopic. Throwing light on the biographical film, the director said: “It is an ambitious film. We are working on it (script). It’s so important, it’s going to take time. “
Speaking about Vishwanathan Anand’s biopic, Aanand L Rai said: “It’s for the man, not for the sport. It is not about the champion but about the man inside this champion and that is what we will try to do (with the film). “
The chess champion, who still holds a place in the top-15, has been awarded the Arjuna Prize by Khel Ratna and Padma Vibhushan. There have been rumors that Aamir Khan may say the title role in the upcoming biographical film.
Aanand L Rai has an interesting production line that includes titles such as Good Luck Jerry and Action Hero. Speaking about them, the director said on an entertainment portal: “We have a very exciting lineup with Good Luck Jerry, Action Hero and Gorkha. They are all different subjects and as a producer, I want to expand on genres they have never done before. “Most importantly, all the issues we fund are original.”
Returning to the upcoming release of director Aanand L Rai, the romantic musical drama stars Sara Ali Khan, Akshay Kumar and Dhanush. Produced by T-Series, Color Yellow Productions and Cape of Good Films, the soundtrack is composed by AR Rahman.
