Hunger Games’ Gary Ross will direct a new sports film, Old time hockeyfor Skydance Sports.
Per DeadlineRoss has been tapped to direct Old Time Hockey, an original sports film from a script written by Kevin Jakubowski.
Set in Pennsylvania, Old Time Hockey will revolve around a long-standing rivalry between high school hockey players that began in the 1990s, but then rekindles in modern times.
What other movies has Gary Ross done?
Ross made his feature film directorial debut in 1998 with Pleasantville, starring Tobey Maguire and Reese Witherspoon. He went on to direct Seabiscuit with Maguire in 2003 before making his first move on the Hunger Games franchise in 2012.
Since then, Ross has made Free State of Jones with Matthew McConaughey in 2015 and the Ocean’s 8 prequel film with Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett and Anne Hathaway in 2018.
Jakubowski, meanwhile, is best known for writing the script for 2021’s 8-Bit Christmas. He wrote 2008’s Assassination of a High School President, and also created television programs such as 2017’s Play by Play, which currently airing on The Roku Channel.
Skydance Sports is a division of Skydance Media created in October 2021. The studio’s first film, Air, was picked up by Amazon Studios in April 2022. Released in the United States in April 2023, the film stars Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Jason Bateman and Chris Messina. The studio is now developing a film about John Tuggle titled Mr. Irrelevant, directed by Jonathan Levine (50/50, Warm Bodies) and written by Nick Santora. Mr. Irrelevant doesn’t have a release date yet.
No casting announcements have been made for Old Time Hockey at this time. The film does not yet have a release date from Skydance Sports.
