The Kamloops Film Society is on the lookout for a new executive director.
It comes as the incumbent, Dusan Magdolen, moves on to a new job as Cultural Services and Events Manager with the City of Kamloops.
“It’s in the area of arts and culture which is an area I’m very passionate about,” Magdolen told Radio NL.
“I will have my fingers in many different pieces of art and culture. I have really, really, really big shoes to fill because that’s at least in part the role that Barb Berger had, but I know that I have a passion for the arts and culture in Kamloops, so I think that will serve me well.”
CAO David Trawin announced earlier this month that Berger – who most recently worked as the city’s Recreation, Social Development and Culture Officer – retired on October 20.
“We are in the process [of hiring] but not quite ready to announce, a Cultural Director and a Recreation Director, to replace Director – or Assistant Director for lack of a better word – Berger,” Travin said on October 17.
Magdolen says it was a difficult decision for him to leave the Kamloops Film Society, having spent the past 15 years with the organization.
“I’m not leaving because I was unhappy or because there was something wrong with the Film Company,” he added. “It’s a great organization to work for. The board is great, I mean a lot of people on the board that I’ve worked with for a whole 15 years.”
“It was the greatest work of my life.”
Magolden is set to start his new job with the City of Kamloops on Jan. 2.
“It will be a year of transition [for the Film Society] but I have faith in the board and Operations Manager Radhika [Tabrez] to get the organization through,” Magdolen said.
