Disney’s new live-action Hercules film will impact the way audiences are “educated by TikTok today.” Producer Joe Russo (Avengers) said Variety that the film will be “a little more experimental in tone,” and that includes taking shape from how young people in particular are being “educated” by TikTok these days.
The Russo brothers are producing the film through their AGBO banner, with Guy Ritchie (Disney’s Aladdin) directing. Joe Russo said that Ritchie is perfect for the film because he has an “experimental bent”. Russo went on to say that he believes Disney is excited about the project because it will be more than just a “reinterpretation of the 1997 animated film.”
The new live-action Hercules will be a musical, and here comes the inspiration of TikTok.
“Audiences today have been educated by TikTok, right? What are their expectations of what this musical looks like and feels like? That can be a lot of fun and help push the boundaries a little bit on how you do a modern musical .” he said.
Anthony Russo Collider said that he and his brother are “Herakles fanatics”. When they realized that Disney was interested in making a live-action film, they told the executives that they were the right partners to produce it. “And here we are,” Anthony Russo said.
Their new live-action Hercules won’t be a “literal translation” of the animated film. They want to bring “something new to the table” with the film.
“We’re going to give you a different story. I think we’re going to do something that’s true to the original and inspired by it, but we’re also going to bring some new elements to the table,” Anthony Russo said.
Hercules is just the latest Disney animated classic to be turned into a live-action film. Other upcoming projects include Snow White with Rachel Zegler and The Little Mermaid with Halle Bailey as Ariel.
No word yet on the cast or release date of the new Hercules movie.
