Movie composer Brian Tyler, who also composed the soundtracks for the Fast & Furious movies and Iron Man 3, he said ScreenRant that this was “the closest thing, really, to doing a musical”. He went on to add: “I would write the music first and they would work on it. The choreography would be done and the story would be shaped, and then I’d go in there and make some changes. It was really like a music-centric play that, to me, was more like a musical.”

Tyler also told ScreenRant that Koji Kondo, the original writer of this score, was heavily involved in the creation of the soundtrack. “I was going back and forth with him, ‘OK, what about this? What do you think if I did that?’ because I wanted to incorporate things. Sometimes it’s invisible, [or] like an easter egg. The harp can make a line from the selected screen Mario Kart that only happens when you’re in the waiting room.” So that’s something fun to watch out for.
