Tom Hanks doesn’t understand why Disney chose to replace ‘Toy Story’ voice actor Tim Allen with Chris Evans in ‘Lightyear’.
Pixar’s new spinoff doesn’t feature Hanks or Allen, who voiced Woody and Buzz Lightyear, respectively, in all four films in the franchise from 1995 to 2019.
Hanks, whose latest film “Elvis” is also currently in theaters, was asked in a recent interview “Is it weird being in the theater opposite the Buzz Lightyear movie?”
” And that ? I actually wanted to fight Tim Allen, but I didn’t let him. The 65-year-old “Forrest Gump” star told CinemaBlend.
When the interviewer mentioned the studio replacing Allen, 69, with Evans, 41, Hanks added, “Yeah, yeah, I know,” but seemed to soften his stance.
“There is a problem here. I want to go back to the theater with a lot of strangers and come away with something in common,” he said.
“That’s what I want to do. And I can’t wait to go to the movies with him.”

The “Home Improvement” grad also isn’t shy about criticizing the film that follows Buzz’s origin story and said he was disappointed that “Extras” didn’t feel more like the characters they were born into.
“It’s a whole new team that has absolutely nothing to do with the first movie,” Allen said.
“The short answer is that I digress from that. … I thought it was live action. When they said they were doing live action I thought they were talking about real humans and not anime.

Allen also said ” [Hanks’] Wooded.”
“So, I’m not sure about the idea. [is] … I am a conspirator,” he explained. “If it had been done in 1997, it would have looked like a great adventure story, and in my opinion it’s not a great adventure story. It’s a wonderful story. I don’t think it has anything to do with toys.
Despite the criticism, Evans recently resented Allen’s past portrayal of Buzz.
Hanks’ “Elvis” movie is also currently in theaters.
The ‘Captain America’ star said in a ‘Good Morning America’ interview on June 17, “I pinched it when I was young.”
Then Evans said, “Hey, Tim Allen is Buzz Lightyear. What he did in the film is so iconic and beloved that it would be foolish not to include some of his choices in this role.
“The characters in this movie are the human versions the toys are based on, so luckily it makes sense to have some overlap.” The ‘Avengers’ star continued. “What Tim Allen did was really off the beaten track.”
