Here are the top 10 movies of 2023 that dominated the box office:
Jawan
Jawan was a Hindi action-thriller film that released in theaters on 7 September 2023 and became the highest grossing film of 2023. On its opening day, the film collected 126.9 crore worldwide. The total collection of the film is 1,148.32 crore. The film stars Shah Rukh Khan, Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi and Deepika Padukone in pivotal roles.
Pathan
After Jawana, Pathaan is the other SRK film to cross the Rs 1000 crore mark in terms of total collection. Pathaan was the fourth installment of YRF Spy Universe starring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham in lead roles. The film was made on a budget of 225 crore and collected 1050 crore worldwide. The film was released in theaters on January 25, 2023.
Animal
The recently released movie Animal ruled the theaters for about two weeks. The film has so far minted 869 crore (approx) worldwide. The film released in theaters on 1 December 2023, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandhanna, Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol in pivotal roles. The film is still in theaters and may earn more. The film is edited and directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who also directed Kabir Singh earlier.
Gadar 2
With a successful year for Bollywood, Gadar 2 also managed to revive Sunny Deol’s career. Gadar 2 became Sunny Deol’s highest grossing film collecting Rs 691.08 crore worldwide. The film was made on a budget of 60 crore and was cut over 600 crore. The film stars Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, Utkarsh Sharma and Manish Wadhwa in pivotal roles.
Leo
The first Tamil film to gross over 600 crore. It was an action thriller film with Vijay in a title role, along with Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Sarja, Trisha, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Mysskin and Madonna Sebastian, who played pivotal roles. Leo was made on a budget of 300 crore (approx) and minted 620 crore worldwide.
Jailer
Another film in the list of highest grossing films of 2023 is Rajinikanth starrer Jailer which is a Tamil language action comedy produced by Kalanithi Maran of Sun Pictures and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. The film minted 607 crores at the box office and was made on a budget of 200 crores. Along with Rajinikanth, the film also stars Vinayakan, Ramya Krishnan, Vasanth Ravi, Tamannaah Bhatia, Sunil, Mirnaa Menon and Yogi Babu in pivotal roles.
Tiger 3
Tiger 3 was the fifth installment of the YRF Spy Universe. It is an action thriller film directed by Maneesh Sharma and produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films. The film features Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif and Emran Hashmi in pivotal roles. Tiger 3 was made on a budget of 300 crore and has minted 466.63 crore worldwide.
Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire
Prabhas starrer Salaar is a Telugu action film written and directed by Prashanth Neel and produced by Vijay Kiragandur. Along with Prabhas, the film also stars Shruti Haasan, Jagapathi Babu, Bobby Simha, Tinnu Anand and Easwari Rao. The movie hit the theaters on December 22, 2023 and has collected over 402 crore till now. Salaar was made on a budget of 270 crore.
Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani
Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani was a Hindi romantic comedy film released in theaters on 28 July 2023. The film is directed by Karan Johar and features Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in lead roles. The film was made on a budget of 160 crore and has collected 355.61 crore worldwide.
Adipurush
Adipurush is a 2023 mythological action film based on the Hindu epic Ramayana. The film was directed by Om Raut and was made on a budget of 500 to 700 crore. Despite being such a high budget film, it only managed to mint 354-450 crores worldwide. The film features Prabhas, Saif Ali Khan, Kriti Sanon, Sunny Singh and Devdatta Nage in pivotal roles. The film regularly garnered negative reviews.
