Veteran actor Vikram Gokhale, who has worked extensively in Hindi and Marathi cinema, was hospitalized in Pune earlier this week. According to information, he remains in critical condition. While there are no official updates on his health from the hospital, reports suggest that his health has deteriorated over the past few days.
On Wednesday evening, news agency PTI reported that the actor had been “admitted to Pune’s Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital a few days ago”. The bulletin added that his condition remains critical. The 77-year-old had retired from Marathi theater in 2016 due to persistent throat problems. However, it is unclear whether this illness has anything to do with his current hospitalization.
A report by Marathi outlet Navshakti said he was taken to hospital a few days ago and his condition stabilized after treatment. However, the report claimed that his condition again started deteriorating in the last two days and he remains critical now. Details of his illness have not been released and so far no statement has been made by the family or the hospital.
Known for his roles on screen and stage, Vikram Gokhale made his film debut at the age of 26 in the 1971 film Parwana starring Amitabh Bachchan. He is best known for his performances in films like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Agneepath and Khuda Gawah. A prolific actor in both Hindi and Marathi cinema, he won the National Award for Best Actor in 2010 for his performance in the Marathi film Anumati. In 2010, he made his directorial debut with the Marathi film Aaghaat.
He was last seen in Abhimanyu Dassani and Shilpa Shetty starrer Nikamma, which hit theaters in June this year.
