Viggo Mortensen’s new film, The dead don’t hurtcontains a minute Lord of the Rings EASTER EGG.
In one scene in the film, Mortensen, who played Aragorn in Peter Jackson’s film series, is seen wearing full medieval armour, complete with helmet and breastplate.
However, one element of the costume was missing, which Mortensen was able to fix with a memento from his time in the mega-franchise.
In an interview with GQ magazine, the Green Book The star explained: “We had everything for this series with a knight. We had found this wonderful, lively horse, the right kind of saddle, and we made a medieval blanket and we had the outfit for the knight.’
And he continued: “Everything was right, and then I said, well, we must have a sword. And I did look and there were some good ones and I thought, well, it might be kind of good to use [Aragorn’s sword] which I had because it is very good.”
“But I knew I would have to ask permission because I’m sure someone will notice it, even if you only see it for a few seconds, it’s not essential to the scene and certainly not to the film, it’s just a passing thing that you either see or not”.
Mortensen asked them both Lord of the Rings The director himself and the film company on their approval of the use of the prop: “I asked Peter Jackson if he would be okay with it, and he said, ‘Well, is it very important to the story?’ I said, no, it’s not, actually,” Mortensen explained.
“You hardly notice, but someone will, probably. He said it was fine with him, but I would have to ask the film company,” he continued.
“So I contacted them and they were fine with it. They realized it wasn’t necessary, he wasn’t going to draw too much attention to himself.
“And they were very good about it and gave us the permission,” he added. “That’s why we did it, just because it felt right. It was a last-minute accident.”
The dead don’t hurtwhich premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last year, is now in theaters.
Elsewhere, Mortensen shared his thoughts on a possible return for the new one Lord of the Rings film.
Meanwhile, Ian McKellen shared that he would be interested in returning for the new project “if I’m alive.”
