Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Ann Moss, who were synonymous with Matrix franchise, return with the last installment of the action movie series, The Matrix Resurrections. However, one of the franchise’s most popular actors, Laurence Fishburne, stands out with his absence from the new film.
The Morpheus character, however, is part of the film, without much detail as to whether it is a newer version, an alternative or a reincarnation of the character played by Fishburne. This character is played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. See what happened to Morpheus in The Matrix and why it is not part of the fourth section.
Because Morpheus is not inside Matrix 4?
Fishburne confirmed in an interview with Entertainment Tonight last August that he was not part of the new Matrix. He had said at the time that he did not have the “answer” to this, as he believed that only the film’s director, Lana Wahowski, could answer her.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II had also stated that there was a “new narrative” about the Matrix, thus giving birth to a “new Morpheus”. Keanu Reeves, in an interview with Unilad, also shared that Wachowski had decided to continue creative production and history without Fishburne.
What happened to Morpheus inside Matrix 3;
Morpheus led the battle as captain of the Nebuchadnezzar aircraft against the Sentinals when they attacked the human city of Zion. While Neo, played by Keanu Reeves, sacrifices himself to protect Zion and destroy the Sentinals, Morpheus could seem to rejoice with Niobe for victory in the war, at its peak.
Because he is not the Morpheus of Laurence Fishburne Matrix 4?
While Laurence Fishburne’s Morpheus emerged alive after the end of The Matrix Revolutions, unlike Neo and Trinity, various theories have made the round not to appear in The Matrix Resurrections.
One of the theories had a connection to the game, The Matrix Online, released in 2005. In the game, which follows the events after Neo’s death, Morpheus could be seen asking the machines about Neo’s remains, hoping to bring him back to life. However, as they refuse, he triggers the explosions of the “code bombs” in the Matrix, to force the machines to comply with his requirements. This led him to be killed by the machines.
Another theory states that by Neo and Trinity, who died at The Matrix revolutions, reappears in the last installment, the setting could be a new version of The Matrix, where Morpheus can not appear after surviving in the previous world of the Matrix.
However, as the film was released in theaters, it emerged that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II was just a program created by Neo in a new Matrix release. Neo, according to a report by Digital Spy, considers it a combination of Morpheus and Agent Smith, as characters in his game. Bugs, played by Jessica Henwick, becomes the first to see Morpheus when he hacks into the Neo-created program as expected, although Morpheus acts like Agent Smith.
Neo realizes that the program was Morpheus after seeing the conversation with Bugs. This version has the ability to appear in front of people, thus leading to the appearance of the Morpheus version of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
Fishburn’s version of Morpheus appears in the film through archival material, when Baggs and Yahya Abdul-Matin II’s Morpheus tell the News that his world was not real. They also fall on a statue of Morpheus Fishburn’s version, after becoming the High Council President.
