People on the internet have gone and created another fantastic movie. No, I’m not talking about Martin Scorsese’s cult-hit Goncharov. I’m talking about the 1980s horror movie vibey, Zepotha.
The folks over at video-sharing platform TikTok have concocted a spoof 80s horror movie they’re calling Zepotha. The fictional film started out as a joke answer to videos, but has now become a full phenomenon on the app. Now, people are sharing videos about reactions to certain scenes, cosplaying characters, and organizing traditions around the film. The hashtag “Zepotha”. has garnered over 76 million views in less than two days.
The trend started with an indie artist named Emily Jeffri. Last weekend, Jeffri shared a video over the weekend that prompted others to comment under videos and say that the person reminded them of a character from a movie called Zepotha. In the video, they suggested that people respond to the thirst traps with comments such as, “but you look EXACTLY like that one girl from Zepotha.”
“Together we will witness new lore that the main characters will emerge, etc. and we can convince thousands of people that this strangely titled horror movie from the 80s actually exists,” the text on the video said.
The piece ends up rooting and referencing a fake movie by the name Zepotha started filling in the answers of seemingly unrelated videos. It wasn’t long until the comments turned into original content and people started dreaming about the world Zepotha. A person created a filter that tells others what Zepotha character is. Others reused the material and the create horror inspired edits inspired by the movie. Some shared reaction scenes to his more brutal moments, like this one infamous forest scene.
The most popular way to interact with the film seems to be through its characters. Several people online have shared videos showing off theirs Zepotha cosplay.
Maria Canals-Barrera, actress on the beloved Disney Channel show The Wizards of Waverly Placeeven hit on Zepotha speaking and said her daughter looks like the character Elaine.
The actual details of the movie are murky. It’s supposed to be an 80’s horror movie, but fans have only created a short list that mentions the names of the characters. There’s no plot, but some TikToks occasionally mention a gruesome “forest scene.” At this point, the track is definitely more about random dumbs than the internet coming together to create something new, like this happened with the Ratatouille musical. Because of this, some on the internet are also criticizing the Zepotha joke and saying that it is just a marketing ploy to promote Jeffrey’s music.
Zepotha it really seems simple The takeover of TikTok Goncharov. People wrote a whole plot about Goncharov, shared fake scenes and imagined it as if Scorsese had directed it himself. So far, Zepotha it hasn’t reached the same depth of design and has caused a bit of a rivalry between the two films. All that’s left now is for both of them to hit the theaters to see who would outdo the other a-la-Barbenheimer.
