The late beloved Dara Singh which was the face of the Lord Hanuman after playing the character in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan he would be very sad to see what has become of Valamiki’s saga in Om Raut’s Adipurush.
“You can’t mess with the Ramayan,” says her son Dara Singh Vindoo Dara Singhwho assumed the mantle of Hanuman after his father’s death. “It’s a very sensitive issue and it’s very close to our hearts. Ever since the movie released, I have been getting calls and messages about why I am not Hanuman in Adipurush. I can’t answer that. Maybe they thought I was too old to play Hanuman. But Hanuman is ageless.”
Besides, Vindoo says, he wouldn’t do Adipurush even if offered. “In any case, I am very particular about doing anything based on the Ramayan. I don’t want to be abused later for what I do. So even if Adipurush had been suggested to me, I don’t think I would have taken it. On social media they say the clothes are all wrong, too sexy or something. You have to be very careful while doing Ramayan. People are very attached to him. It is very dangerous to play with the Ramayan.’
Vindoo rightly believes that his father Dara Singh has become Hanuman’s on-screen face. “I can say that my father is the screen avatar of Hanuman. When you think of Hanuman, his face comes before you. After him I played Hanuman. In fact, a few days ago I played Hanuman again at Siri Fort. I got a thunderous applause again.”
Vindoo has been busy filming a web series. “So I didn’t get a chance to see Adipurush. But the point is that when you do Ramayan everyone should love and appreciate it, not abuse it. It’s very sad.”
